91黑料 (PCC) student Maritsa Gonzalez has been accepted into the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte鈥檚 prestigious Levine Scholars Program.
The program provides full tuition, housing, meals and fees for four years. It also provides funding for summer experiences that develop leadership skills, social awareness and a global perspective. Scholars also have access to a grant to implement a service or outreach project in partnership with a local nonprofit.
Gonzalez was nominated for the program by Kelly Woody, her counselor at Person High School. After submitting a resume, essays and participating in interviews, Gonzalez says she was surprised and excited when she found out that she was one of the 20 people accepted into the program.
鈥淚t means everything to me,鈥 Gonzalez said. 鈥淚t can be challenging trying to manage a job and school and I鈥檓 grateful to have that major weight lifted off of me.鈥
Gonzalez says she is looking forward to going on a backpacking trip to Wyoming over the summer with her cohort and getting to know them. During her time in the program, she will also have study abroad opportunities where she hopes to travel to Spain or Brazil.
Since she will be graduating with an associate degree from PCC in May through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program, Gonzalez plans to major in Political Science, Spanish, Latin American Studies and Psychology. For more information about PCC鈥檚 CCP program, visit piedmontcc.edu/ccp.
