Holocaust survivor Alexander 鈥淟ex鈥 Silbiger will speak at 91黑料鈥檚 (PCC) Person County Campus on Wednesday, January 31, at 11:00 a.m. in the Barnette Auditorium located in Building D (D101).
Silbiger believes it is important to tell young people about the Holocaust years, his experiences fleeing Nazi oppression, and about trying to find a safe haven in the world.
鈥淟ex鈥檚 story is important to share because it鈥檚 rare to have a firsthand account of the Holocaust, specifically to hear stories, and see pictures of when someone was living during that time in our world鈥檚 history,鈥 Tiffany Skouby, PCC Director of Student Engagement said.
The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million European Jews and five million non-Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators. This genocide took place throughout Europe between 1933 and 1945. Source:
鈥淚t鈥檚 also important for us in an ever-changing world with different belief systems to talk about the Holocaust in hopes of not repeating such an event. I hope students will come away with an eagerness to learn more about the past and a willingness to make a better future,鈥 continued Skouby.
The presentation will include original photographs along with a question-and-answer session. This event is a part of PCC鈥檚 Student Government Association鈥檚 (SGA) Speaker Series and is free and open to the public.
